New York, NY 10003
Tel: (212) 979-4000
Day of surgery:
Please report to the admitting desk in the main lobby. You will be given your arrival time by our office staff the day before.
What to bring to surgery:
- A list of all your medications and the dosages.
- Your insurance cards and driver’s license.
- If you are having a premium lens or premium procedure for cataract surgery, you will be asked to pay for the hospital portion when you check-in.
General instructions on day of surgery:
- Do not wear makeup or jewelry.
- Eyedrops: Please fill the prescriptions for your surgery eye drops in advance and begin using them three days before your surgery as instructed. Continue all other previously prescribed eyedrops (such as glaucoma drops).
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink anything after midnight. If you eat in the morning of surgery, your surgery will be cancelled.
- Medications: You may take your medications with a sip of water on the morning of surgery. If you are diabetic, call your medical doctor regarding adjusting diabetes medicine, for before and after the surgery. You may continue to take aspirin, coumadin, plavix or other blood thinners for cataract surgery. However, if you are having a glaucoma procedure at the same time as your cataract surgery, Dr. Rubinstein will likely instruct you to discontinue your blood thinner.
- Escort home: Someone must accompany you home after the surgery. This is a strict hospital policy and the hospital will not allow you to proceed with surgery if someone cannot pick you up at the hospital and take you home. If no escort is possible the hospital can pre-arrange a service for a fee.
Post Op Visit:
You will have a post-operative visit at Dr. Rubinstein’s office the next day after surgery. The time of this visit will be scheduled with you in advance.
If you have any questions, please call our office at (212) 242-2200.
